Pumpkin Book Reports

WOW!  I am blown away by my talented students (and their awesomely supportive parents)!  When the other fourth grade teachers and I decided we wanted our first report to be focused on character traits, I chose to go in my own direction and incorporate pumpkins for two reasons: 1. It's October!  2. I wanted my students to let their creativity shine.  Having never assigned this book report before, I had no how amazing they would be, but my students far exceeded my expectations, as usual.  They also did a great job presenting their characters and telling about their books.  Here's a look at their pumpkins...

Random Acts of Kindness

Our Service Learning project this year is Random Acts of Kindness.  Yesterday, the students brainstormed a list of people in the school and community we could help and a list of possible acts of kindness.  They had so many great ideas I had to stop writing them down so we could do our first project!  A few people we hope to help or thank this year are firefighters,  police officers, homeless people, sick kids, and mother nature.  Our first project was a combination of art and service learning...

It was a torn-paper art project, and at first, my little perfectionists didn't like the idea at all, but I think they turned out really well!  I'm quite impressed with their crafting skills. :)

On Monday, we will send our thank you cards to the librarians at the Green Valley Ranch Library. :)

Even More Kings and Queens

Maya, Ally, Jordan, Connor, Gavino and (not pictured) Arlette

We had so many kings and queens this week that Gavino had to wear the birthday hat!  I guess it's time to invest in more crowns because almost every student got an A or A+ on their DLR this week, and there aren't many things that make me happier than that! :)

Student of the Week!

The incredibly beautiful and intelligent Jasmine!  She did a fabulous job on her board, filling it with pictures and fun facts about herself.  The kids loved learning more about her, and so did I!

Even More Bubbliciousness!

Last week, we popped in some more bubble gum to practice our procedural writing skills and powerful word choice.  Here are a few pictures of the kids doing "research"...

Poor Bruce.  He tried SO hard to blow a bubble and keep it long enough for me to take a picture, but this was the best shot we could get.

Their How-Tos turned out really well!  I'm keeping their writing at school all year to make a fourth grade writing portfolio, but you can come by our room and check them out.  They're hanging proudly on the wall for everyone to enjoy. :)
